Well, I did it. With Marshall's help and research, I picked out what I hope will be a suitable replacement for my old Handspring. We went with a Palm Zire 71. We're still working out a few snags, because it has a newer version of the Palm OS than I used to have. But I think it has great potential. And this time, we bought a 2-year warranty. :-)

As we've been editing the video from Andy and Ingrid's wedding, I've noticed a loud and annoying buzz coming from our video camera. Worse, the noise shows up throughout the video footage we took of the wedding reception. Apparently the video camera suffered some traumatic experience just before Andy and Ingrid cut the wedding cake, and the resulting buzz was picked up by its internal microphone.
This causes a couple of problems for us. First, what to do with the camera? It's over four years old now, and well past its warranty period. I have no idea how expensive these things are to repair; I hope it's not one of those better-to-buy-a-new-one-than-repair-it things. Digital video cameras have come down in price, but not that much. Second, what to do about the video footage? We're working on making a DVD of the footage, and that buzz is truly distracting -- not exactly the sort of thing you want preserved for posterity. I'll have to see if there's some sort of audio editor that can filter out that specific sound.

After we got back from a great weekend in Chicago, I set off to work again on Tuesday. Marshall was staying home to be available for the guys who were coming to install our new furnace and central air. So I packed up my things and started to head towards the "T". I was trying not to need to bring my bag, so I had my hands full of stuff I was bringing into work. So I set everything into the car and pulled out of the driveway. But when I got to the middle of the road and glanced back, I noticed that my Palm pilot was sitting in the driveway. How odd! What was it doing there? I didn't remember dropping it. So I pulled back in to check on it. And when I got closer, I noticed that my nice leather cover that I had purchased to protect it... well, it had tire tracks on it. So I opened it up, and sure enough - the body was only slightly broken but the screen was in many, many tiny pieces.
