Red hourglasses

California has many natural things to love -- the mountains, the beaches, the weather, the plentiful parks of trees both ancient and unusual -- but one of the not-so-nice elements is the presence of the black widow spider.
We killed our first black widow last night. It had taken up residence just above our front door, and we noticed it making its way down the wall as we were heading out to Cold Stone. We bestowed upon it a brief but intense shower of Raid, and this morning we found it crumpled on the ground. I put it in an empty water bottle that was handy and then showed Lara the bright red hourglass on the underside.
The problem with having a poisonous spider in a water bottle, though, is that when I'm feeling thirsty, I see the water bottle there and want to take a drink. Bad idea.

Okay, I weathered through the coveting of mountains and ocean-front property. I even stomached the information on black widows and Raid. But did you have to torture me with Cold Stone Creamery??? Can anyone tell me if the Sinless Sweet Cream is any good?
We have a Cold Stone in Robinson now. Marshall, I swear they're opening all the good stuff after you have left! There are also PGH cold stones in Bridgeville, Mt. Lebanon, and soon in Squirrel Hill.
Hey, you strip html! My last post had these links: jobs.apple.com
coldstonecreamery.com
Jack: yes, I noticed the Bridgeville location on the list when I looked up the web site a while back; that's crazy. It's even crazier that you'll be closer to an Apple Store than I am -- although the one I go to here is near the beach, so I can't really complain.
Mom: I asked about the Sinless Sweet Cream when I was last in Cold Stone, and the girl there said she liked it as long as it had some fruit in it or something. By itself it's apparently not all that great.
Next thing you know Carl's Jr. will be popping up all over Western Pa. (ba da boom-ching. But seriously folks...meet us this Saturday for lunch at the Silver Diner in Tysons, Va. Mmmm milkshakes. Then after we go to the Apple here you can turn around and enjoy dinner back in the Redlands that night. Okay, bye!
yikes, black widow spiders! I'm already afraid of the nonpoisonous kind of spiders. maybe we'll live here in D.C. and not transfer locations to Redlands! but we definitely want to visit!!!
